Scottish Whispers Summer School 2025
Come and join me in Rennes, France this July where we will have an action - packed, musically - filled, joyful, inspirational weekend of music.
The Course
At the heart of this course is the joy of music. We will learn tunes from Scotland, Ireland and Shetland and develop them through playing them together as a group and experimenting with multiple harmonies. In the morning we will learn tunes together, in the afternoon there will be time to play with other participants and have individual lessons and in the evening there will be group activities (session, concert, conference, ceilidh). The goal of all of this will be for you to leave with confidence, inspiration and some great tunes in your back pocket.
This course is open to instrumentalists of all backgrounds, and no previous knowledge of folk music is required. You will learn a range of folk tunes and explore the styles and techniques that accompany them. This course is taught entirely by ear. We will explore making music together using alternative harmonies. There will be the chance to perform at the end of the course, too. As always, you will have sheet music and videos so that you can work on the tunes after the course is over.
